Visiting China Visa Requirements

New Zealand passport holders are able to visit China visa free for up to 30 days under a Visa Waiver policy introduced by China for purposes of business, tourism, family or friends visits, exchange and transit. The visa waiver does not apply to those who come to China for work, study, journalism or similar purposes. This policy currently applies for visits taking place prior to December 2025.

Additionally, New Zealand passport holders who are non-Chinese but are also permanent residents of Hong Kong (i.e. holding a Hong Kong Permanent Resident ID Card) may visit China using a China Travel Card. This card allows for holders to pass through China immigration ports without passport and by using e-channels at ports of entry and exit. Details of how to apply for and use the China Travel Card are available here.
